The 16-year-old upcoming star Gaia Cauchi has just announced that she’s releasing her debut single titled ‘Why Should I?‘ on October 2.

Cauchi is currently working on new music, which she is writing and producing herself. Her new material can be expected in the upcoming months and ‘Why Should I?’ is the track that is kickstarting her career.

The upcoming single is a neon-soaked pop tune, pumping with club-leaning energy, and you can catch the premiere right here on CelebMix on October 2.

“‘Why Should I?’, talks about a person which is kind of hurt because the other person isn’t giving their all in the relationship,” Cauchi says about the new single in a press release. “Even though a person is hurt and says that they “won’t care” anymore because the other person doesn’t, they might still be in love with the other person but since they’re not getting the same amount of love in return, then they might feel a bit silly to even say that they still really care deep down inside. I was going through a breakup and this song was inspired by it, I felt like I needed to write down everything that I was feeling cause there were so many emotions questions that I felt like I needed an answer to but I couldn’t really get one from anyone except him.”

The Maltese-born singer first entered the spotlight back in 2013 when she won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with the original song ‘The Start’. Since then, Cauchi has been making a name for herself in her home country, and last year she decided to take the leap to audition for X Factor UK. At her X Factor audition, Cauchi received a ‘yes’ from all four judges including Simon Cowell and Louis Tomlinson.

Cauchi auditioned as a solo artist, however, she was given the opportunity to join the girl group Sweet Sense, which was made up of soloists that had auditioned for the singing competition. Their mentor, Robbie Williams, sent them all the way to judge’s house, which was sadly the end of the road for them.

Although this was the end of Cauchi’s X Factor career, she didn’t let it stop her. Since leaving the show, the singer has been working hard on her solo career. This past June, she performed at the Isle of MTV Malta alongside artists such as Ava Max and Bebe Rexha, and it’s only going up from here!
