Jorge is a Florida Supreme Court justice who is taking office on 6 January 2009. He was certified as Florida’s 56th Chief Justice on 30 June 2014. He is the first Cuban-American to hold the post and was succeeded by Charles T. Canady on July 1, 2018. In the year 1996, Jorge was appointed as a Circuit Court Judge by Governor Lawton Chiles.

Jorge is a judge who refused a new vote during the 2000 U.S. Presidential election on the grounds. The Constitution stated that an election must be held everywhere in the US on the same day. Previously, Labarga was a Judge in Palm Beach County, Florida, from 1996 to 2009 for the 15th Circuit Court.
After completing his Juris Doctorate in 1979, he Joined the 15th Judicial Circuit and severed as Assistant public defender until 1982. Later, Labarga became the Assistant state attorney. He began concentrating on personal harm attempt work for Wagner, Johnson, Nugent, Roth, Romano & Erikson in 1987.
